In Sumy the Seminary Began the New Academic Year
On 1 of September 2016 in Sumy Theological Seminary hosted the celebrations dedicated to the start of the new 2016/2017 academic year.
On the eve of the 31st of July in the Seminary’s Church in honor of St. Simeon Noviy Bogoslov and John of Kronstadt was made formal canonical divine services, and confession and prayers for Holy Communion.
Early on the morning on 1 of September in the Seminary Church by the Vice - Rector of Academic and Disciplinary Work Archimandrite Anthony (Bondarenko) served divine Liturgy, during which all pupils of the theological school have Holy Communion. Then served moleben, sprinkling Holy water on the classrooms and residential rooms of students.
Prayer at the beginning of exercise was headed by Rector of the Theological Seminary of his Eminence the Archbishop of Sumy and Akhtyrka Eulogiy, assisted by teachers and students in Holy orders. In his archpastoral exhortation before prayer, His Eminence emphasized the role of prayer in the life of every Christian, and in the comprehension of the theory and practice of theology. A prayer service ended with the singing of the Many Years of the statutory proclamation, a sprinkling of students with Holy water.
After the prayer service, the celebration dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year 2016/2017, headed by the Rector of the Sumy Theological Seminary the Archbishop of Sumy and Akhtyrka Eulogiy. A report of the results of the opening campaign of 2016 was made by the Secretary of the Pedagogical Council of the Seminary Alexander Trokhimchuk. The Rector appealed to the teachers and students with fatherly words of instruction. "The Bible is the basis and fount of knowledge about God. This is the main Book in the library of every Christian occupies a special place of honor. Scripture is the most important part of Holy Tradition. Today every Orthodox person, especially an Orthodox priest, must know the Bible, study it and live by it", - the basic thoughts of the word of the Lord. His Eminence also emphasized the importance of Dogmatic Theology, Catechism, Liturgy, Patrology, Homiletics, and their close relationship with other subjects studied in theological school.
Rector thanked the faculty, staff, workers and students are taught to listen to their teaching. Incoming pupils were presented with souvenirs – books.
Overshadowed by the protection of the Queen of Heaven, the prayers of St. Simeon the Noviy Bogoslov and St. John of Kronstadt, the archpastoral blessing of the rector of the Theological Seminary of his Eminence Archbishop of Sumy and Akhtyrka Eulogiy, teachers and students of Sumy Theological Seminary entered into a new academic year.
