STUDENT BEHAVIOR RULES OF SUMY THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

Sumy Seminary is a pastoral-theological religious institution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which puts the goal of upbringing and education of zealous pastors of the Church of Christ, also theologically educated lay people capable of his life preaching and ministry to involve numerous Orthodox population of the country to the fertile life of the Kingdom of God. The student must always remember that it is - a representative of the Orthodox Church, a graduate of the Orthodox church of the religious institution which wishes to see him as a convinced Christian and educated servant of the Church. He should have his inner and outer life, as well, and to choose their classes, according to the specified purpose Seminary, providing around a steady obedience to the rules and ordinances of the Holy Church. Students must follow to shedule, it is advisable to use while staying in the religious school, spiritually and intellectually improve.

I. ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE

Sumy Theological Seminary is under the pastoral leadership and care of the Lord the Rector Reverend Eulogiy, Archbishop of Sumy and Akhtyrka. The seminary administration include: a) the Vice-rector for academic and disciplinary work; b) The Vice-Rector for administrative work; c) Secretary of the Board. Temple and church services the direct responsibility of the rector, guiding them through the head of the liturgical practice. Students Sumy seminary is the one who, after a successful entrance examination and interviews with a selection committee is listed enter the seminary. The list approved by the teachers' council, signed by the Rector and after the announcement is posted on the bulletin board.

II. CHURCH

1.The student must know that the first place in the spiritual life of the school is given a temple and church services. Therefore, attending church services on Sundays, holidays, in the days of fasting, also in the days of the temple of obedience (liturgical practice) is mandatory for all. Here, students are constantly subjected to the test his conscience for compliance with internal, spiritual dispensation put high goals and objectives in life.

2. Relationship to the temple and to the church services should be special - a reverent and holy. Execution of all obediences with great Christian responsibility involves mandatory, rigorous daily training as singing groups, and regular readers.

3. At the service, as in the morning and evening tend to be coming in advance (no later than 5 minutes prior to the start).

4. Prohibited be during the service in the arches and on the porch of the temple.

5. Discussions during the service, the premature departure from the temple is not allowed. Leaving the church during the service can only be with the permission of the teacher.

6. The prayer rule and liturgical texts should be read slowly and loudly, paying attention to punctuation and diction.

7. Students clothed sacred dignity are directly subordinate to the head of liturgical practice and perform strictly according to the approved service rite rector and schedules. Unauthorized service in the temple, and outside the religious school is not permissible. When leaving for vacation, the student priest must hold a relevant document confirming their identity and dignity. 8. Students are not invested with the sacred dignity, during daily service duties are readers, singers, sextons and others on the basis of the schedules of the temple services.

9. Students of 3 and 4 years of study mandatory  pronounce sermon in the temple, according to the schedule. Write and correctly executed sermon student must necessarily present a teacher of homiletics for inspection, and then pass to the Secretary of Board before 10 days of the casting. 10. 11. The students of the seminary, stir up a spiritual jealousy must often confess and partake of Holy Communion (preferably not less than once every three weeks).

III. TRAINING PART

1.The educational process begins on 1st of September with a joint prayer of teachers and students in the church of seminary. Students in this day acquainted with class teachers, with whom during the school year may resolve all the difficult questions requiring an answer.

2. All students are obliged to strict compliance with the daily routine and visit all lectures and lessons identified in the schedule of training sessions. Release the student from the lessons of the day can only the vice-rector.

3. Students are obliged to take care of having refills, notebooks, personal care products, in order to acquire them in the school year, do not waste precious time. DUTIES of  CLASS MONITOR AND DUTY CLASS

4. In the class responsible person is the class monitor. He is responsible for the daily administration of the notification of the absence on health grounds for employment, in connection with the obedience or other reasons. The mayor is responsible for the cleanliness class, availability and serviceability of teaching aids and furniture and has a preferential right to express wishes and interests of the students before administration. To observe the cleanliness and order in each classroom set another daily duty inmates under the guidance of class monitor. Class monitor make a list of duty, which is posted in the classroom.

7. Pupils are required to meet in audience for 5 minutes before the start of classes and must have all the necessary belong-ries: manuals, notes and notebooks for records. 8. Each lesson begins and ends with prayer, the first prayer before teaching and the latest after the 4th lesson students traditionally sang the whole class.

10. During the lessons pupils should sit upright, not sprawling, not yawning, keep quiet, not to talk, listen carefully to the explanations of teachers and the answers of his friend, avoiding extraneous classes. Any help for pupil is strictly prohibited.

11. Student progress is evaluated on the basis of daily report to the lessons and lectures and written works submitted strictly on certain days.

12. The low achievement after consideration of the reasons a meeting of Teacher’s Council may give rise to payments from the students.

13. Every day a special place in the educational process should be at the reading of Sacred Scripture, patristic and scientific and theological literature.

14. In the evening, on weekdays, from 17 hours before dinner, reserved for self study. During these hours, students are required to be in the classroom and prepare educational material for classes of next day, while respecting the complete silence. If there is a need to engage in the reading room, then this shall be notified by the teacher and the class monitor.

15. In case of need to absent of student from the seminary in the classroom, each time it is requested permission of Vice-Rector, and the absence of the pupil in the classroom necessarily noticed in register. Absence due to illness may be resolve the doctor and with the blessing of vice-rector.

16. If necessary be outside of theological school for more than 12 hours student appeals personally to the rector, while providing a written request indicating the reason for absence. After arriving from a permitted leave the student must first report to the Secretary of Board for the registration of arrival.

IV. INTERNAL REGULATIONS

TERMS OF BEDROOM USING

1. In the day training, vacation and holidays school life is regulated by the respective daily schedule, approved by the Rector.

2. About the waking up, the all clear, the beginning, the end, activities and other events recognized by pupils of rings of person on duty, according to the daily routine.

3.Waking up should be carried out slowly, so ordered a prayerful mood was initiated with the start of school and public holiday. After the morning toilet the pupil is obliged to neatly fill the bed and put things in proper order. On the bed there should be no foreign objects. Lying on the bed while resting is prohibited in street clothes and shoes. Under the bed should be no dirty shoes. Clean clothes in the bedrooms and corridors is prohibited. This can be done in the washroom.

4. In the bedroom, each student has a permanent, certain place. Unauthorized transition from one bedroom to another, as well as a change of places is prohibited.

5. It is strictly prohibited to enter the dorm food and dishes from the refectory.

6. Compliance with the order and silence in the bedroom after lights out watching bedrooms class monitor, who is responsible for the property and the bedrooms are clean. To monitor the cleanliness and order set another daily duty of pupils under the guidance of elders bedrooms. Class monitor is a list of duties that hung in the bedroom. Every Saturday is held spring-cleaning powers of all tenants bedrooms.

7. In the bedside table should be personal hygiene items, clothes, everyday things. Outerwear should be in the wardrobe and personal belongings, including suitcases, bags and so on. - In the checkroom. The bedrooms are strictly forbidden to keep TVs and radios and tape recorders powered from the network. 9. Parents, relatives and even strangers in all dorm rooms is strictly not allowed. Meet with family and friends takes place in the lobby of the seminary. Lodging for the night at the Seminary of unauthorized persons in any case not permitted.

10. Willful hanging paintings in the bedrooms, portraits, pictures, mirrors, rugs, wall clocks, etc. - prohibited. Any willful decoration in the bedrooms is not allowed. Hammering nails into the walls, dirty walls, damage equipment and household items entails severe penalties.

11. Students must comply with fire safety regulations.

BEHAVIOR RULES IN REFECTORY

12. The repast begins and ends with prayer and blessing of the priest.

13. The pupil came to the refectory, strictly according to the daily routine takes its place at the table. In some cases, the assistant of vice-rector can be transplanted pupil to another place.

14. During the meal student read the life of certain saint.

15. All problems relating to repast the pupils decide to dine by the vice-rector, obliged all the time to stay in the dining room until the end of the meal.

16. During the meal, the procedure pases peace and quiet. All talk among themselves strictly prohibited. Any walking in the refectory during the eating is forbidden. The puzzling cases should be handled by an assistant inspector on duty. Leaving the refectory without permission is not permitted.

17. It is necessarily observed duty of all students in the refectory. The duties are present in the kitchen throughout the day.

18. Theological School are strictly observed fasts, established by the Holy Church. With the awareness of the administration ill students blessed indulgence of fast.

19. Stranger is strictly forbidden to enter the location of the kitchen and utility rooms catering, as well as make the food and dishes from the refectory.

DUTY AND OBEDIENCE

20. Based on the spiritual needs of the school, the administration can attract students to the economic and other works, called obedience. Renouncement from physical work can take place only in the case of documentary evidence of the impossibility of their performance because of certain circumstances.

21. Students who live in the city with the blessing of the administration, are not exempt from the general obedience.

DOCTOR VISITS

22. In the case of sickness and inability to perform daily routine student immediately notifies a vice-rector, through which receives direction in sanitary part. Not permitted stay in the bedroom in the disease state. Sick releases only the administration of the classes.

23. The patient, who is in infirmary, is obliged to strictly observe the instructions of the attending physician and comply with special rules of stay in a medical institution.

24. Any treatment outside the theological school should be carried out only by the blessing of the rector of the pupil indicating the address of a medical institution, the division number and the house, and then, after the end of treatment, documented by the appropriate certificate of the attending physician, which seems to administration.

25. Absent from the seminary after 5p.m. on weekdays and holidays, students can only resolve the vice-rector. Upon returning to the seminary of permitted absences the student is obliged to previously come to the vice-rector and reported about his arrival. Unauthorised absences are considered a serious violation of discipline with all the ensuing consequences.

26. The total all clear at the seminary at 22.30. At 22.25 all students must be in the bedrooms. At 22.30 hours the light is switch off , stop walking, talking, and every noise. Bedrooms locks. Administration should have access to the bedrooms at any time of the day or night.

27.It is prohibited to turn loud music by the students. Strictly prohibited listening to rock, pop, jazz and other music of demonic direction. During the period of Great Lent is prohibited to listen music and songs.

V. GENERAL PROVISIONS

1. During the years of training the student should try to work out a certain behavior patterns, becoming a spiritual person.

2. At a meeting with seniors need to standing welcomes their slight inclination of the head. If the senior clergy and personally appeals to the student, the latter must take blessings. At a meeting with the rector and vice-rector of the student seeks their blessing.

3. The appearance and behavior of pupils must comply with the high purpose of spiritual schools and to show that the student is constantly remembers what purpose he entered into a spiritual institution.

4. Posture of students should be correct, which implies the absence of a slouch, attentive gaze, slow pace in motion, slowness in walking, loud and clear pronunciation of phrases and a constant internal self-control.

5. For the candidate to the priesthood prohibitive cry, abuse, excessive gestures, running, presence of tempting places and among the known erratic behavior. All this can be avoided in advance thinking about their intentions and actions.

6. In communication desirable simplicity, lack of deliberateness, the desire to stand out.

7. The appearance of the seminary's location in a state of intoxication, smoking, lack of night in a hostel entails the most severe penalties, up to and including immediate deduction from the seminary.

8. Students are put into the reader, and ordained to the priesthood, blessed by wearing appropriate hairstyles and beards. All other students prescribed regular visits to the barbershop. Not permitted stay in the temple and in the classroom in the slovenly appearance. The future priest should pay special attention of clean hands and nails, as well as the ability to use a handkerchief. The form of the student dress is a black cassock, Russian sewing.

9. The special accuracy is required of pupils in public places: bath and toilets. The faults cranes, shower, sink, toilet, doors, vents and so on. the pupil should immediately report to the steward, and if there is time, to help the worker to troubleshoot. Passing the failure, the student, thereby demonstrating indifference to the institution, and, consequently, to the church-wide problems.

10. The pupil materially responsible for the books, notes, implements and other items received for a certain time, after which everything must be returned to library, housekeeper, manager of storage or other responsible person. The damage caused to seminary because of the careless attitude to the outstanding things that may be chargeable to the student.

VI. ADOPTION TO PRIESTHOOD

1. By the end of the fourth year of studing in Seminary student shall decide on the device of personal life (family, monasticism, the serving at the parish or other options) and put notify the administration.

2. Pupils who wish to become a monk, must submit this petition addressed to the Rector in the prescribed form, after consulting with the teacher and confessor.

3. Students-monks should be an example for others and obedience to the general student and disciplinary responsibilities.

4. The pupil intending to marry must first consult with the confessor, notify the teacher and obtain the written blessing of the rector. In marriage is important to remember that, as a candidate to the priesthood, and to his spouse the Church imposes certain canonical rules, if ignored, will prevent the adoption of the priesthood.

5. Those who wish to take holy dignity must apply for Rector corresponding application for ordination.

VII. REST

1. During the school year students are provided vacation in three times: summer, Christmas and Easter. Schedule of vacations prepared in advance in view of the mandatory annual summer obedience. Dates of departure and arrival are strictly regulated. Failure to arrive from vacation without good reason is regarded as gross misconduct.

2. Free time students can use for walking, sports, crafts, recreation and so on., While not forgetting about the special requirements imposed by the Church and society to the spiritual school pupils.

3. It should not be forgotten that the manner of dress, behave in society, in others, as a rule, formed a true understanding of the inner spiritual world of man.

VIII. MEASURES AND THE PENALTY

1. All information about the learning process, church services, obedience, and so on. communicated to students through oral announcements in the refectory, and then posted on the bulletin board.

2. A careful listening to announcements and regularly reviewing them in the printed version will allow the student to have full information about the life of the school and the requirements for specific individuals.

3. In case of violation of spiritual discipline school pupil made an oral remark by vice-rector, to which he must respond appropriately.

4. Repeated misconduct Vice-Rector shall take the offender a written explanation of the incident. If the pupil is no written, Vice-Rector is obliged to submit a written report outlining what had happened and the motives of the refusal by explaining to the Rector.

5. To explain the behavior of the pupil may be caused by the vice-rector or Pedagogical Council

6. Penalties include: observation, oral or written reprimand, reduction of points on the behavior to a 5-, 4, 3. Reduction score entails a reduction of vacation leave. For systematic violation of discipline, together with a decrease in score on the behavior should be the last warning about the inadmissibility of such behavior and written communication to parents and the ruling diocesan bishop. Guide the above rules of behavior in daily life will allow the student to successfully complete a course of theological sciences and enrich their inner world of special experiences of the spiritual life, based on an effort to fully implement the principles of the Gospel in their lives.
